This past year has been such a whirlwind. Everything bad that could have happen has happened, but there have been a lot of really amazing moments as well. With so much loss and the really harsh realization that life is so short, we've decided to begin our next huge adventure as a family - MOVE TO IRELAND
But why though?
First....why not? It is a really big world out there, and the opportunity to travel and see the world and grow through that process is really important, both to us individually and through our eyes as parents to an amazing daughter.
Second....this year has really highlighted the best and worst about this place we currently call home. The amazing way our community came together and supported each other through this new paradigm of existence was really heartening. Sadly, however, there are also huge swaths of this country that just showed they do not give a shit about anyone else. Now couple that with the increasing disparity between rich and poor, the ever-worsening drought, the astronomical costs of living, the fires, and the decision really comes much more sharply into focus.
Finally....I lost my old job! It's true. Jobs come and jobs go, and I have been so incredibly lucky to have an amazing network of peers and former bosses who have been incredible champions for my growth and development. So when Alphabet decided to shut down Loon, it was PAINFUL; the dream was dead. Bummer. BUT, as I mentioned before, the community really came together; my personal and professional community. This includes, most notably, one of the best people I've ever work with, and she helped me identify a number of amazing opportunities, the coolest of which happens to be situated squarely in the heart of Dublin, Ireland!
So....put all that together, and we're moving.
So what is the plan?
It starts in June, June 18th to be specific. We're hitting the road.
Starting in San Carlos, we hit the road with a brief stopover to bid farewell (at least in the near-term) to our place in Truckee. From there, we''ll be stopping in Park City, checking out Mt Rushmore (at the strong request of our daughter), then one night somewhere between there and our next stop just outside Chicago. From Chicago, it's Pittsburgh, Gettysburg, Leesburg (....why so many 'Burgs?), and our final stop, our family in Westport, CT. From there, we head down to JFK in early July and fly to Dublin.
And then?
And then, we shall see. You only live once, as far as we know, and we're excited for the adventure. We hope you come along for the journey.
